Langham House - Frail Care
The Home was built around 1904 and was originally known as the Rhodes Hotel and then the Langham Hotel. Rumour has it that the Hotel was named after Mr Langham Dale, the founder of Dale College in King Williams Town.
The Hotel was sold in 1917 to Castle Breweries (now S.A.B. Millers) who sold it to the South African Red Cross in 1969. It was then turned into an old age home.
During 1990 the S.A. Red Cross decided to no longer be involved in Homes for the Aged and disposed of their assets to other non profit organisations. This led to the formation of Leisure Homes for Senior Citizens, a Section 21 Company not for gain and a registered non profit organisation.
The current Board, all of whom offer their services free of charge, consists of 11 members.
The Home is situated at 82 Fleet Street in the beachfront suburb of the Quigney and is able to care for 74 senior citizens. There are a total of 43 bedrooms of which 13 have en-suite facilities.
